Hi Stuat, Good to hear from you again!

First thing is that I don't considder link exchange to be an outdated tactic. Link exchanges as a model for a web site or business is a dead duck now because of the changes in search engine ranking. But like you said the little guy on the web has a great opportunity here to exchange links with other complimentary or competing sites to boost web traffic and to increase profile in a niche market.

All the big companies were doing it for was the search engine ranking which is now dead, as we said.

So yes, I think thias is one great oportunity for web entreprenuers to pick up a practice that so many people have decided is useless and make it pay big style!

Do you think that the 'link debate' is fueled by bigger net business? Where big business needs to get their URL to the top of the search engine rankings they will drop or change tactics to that end. The small independant operator, who does not need to get, and indeed might never get, to the top of the search engine rankings can successfully use 'outdated' tactics that the bigger operators have rejected?

Thanks for the comment Stuart.

Although articles and blog entries can be very similar bolg entries tend to be a bit more chatty and informal. The same principles apply though. your readers will still be reading on the screen and everything that makes reading an article readable will make a blog post readable.

Cheers Ian

Hi Ian,
I have recently started my own blog and am finding your own blog very useful. Would you say that the guidelines you have talked about above eg. subtitles, headings, bullet points, lists are equally as valid when blogging or is a blog a special case.
Thanks for your help, Stuart Mcknight.

Hi Thanks for the comment.

I don't think you can really totally prevent anyone from ripping off your articles. Most people are honest and even the lazy ones are probably too lazy to go to the time and trouble of changing all your links.

Think of your articles as give aways. Expect people to use them and even to rip them off occasionally. Then when they do there's no real pproblem.

One big problem maybe if someone is ripping off your content from your web site or blog. In this case I would follow up with the hosting company where the perpetrator has their site to see if I could get it closed down.

Always keep dated copies of your articles and blog posts in a backup file where you can prove you worte the articles or had them written for you.

Hope this has been helpful.

Hi Ian, There are definately benifits to these free kinds of advertising. There are a lot of dishonest people out there though and there is a chance that they will steal your honest hard work and change the links to there own site. How would address that problem.
